Título
Hydrodynamics of Ribarroja Reservoir (Ebro River, Spain): Water temperature, water velocities and water age
Descripción
A hydrodynamic study of Ribarroja Reservoir (Ebro River) from the analysis of field data and the numerical simulations results is presented. The meteorological and hydrodynamic studies show different behaviors of the reservoir in years 2009 and 2010. While year 2009 was very stable in terms of flow and stratification, 2010 had many important flood events causing an atypical breaking of the thermocline in spring and, consequently, two stratification episodes took place in the same year. Due to the complex geometry and flow characteristics, a two-dimensional model (CE-QUAL-W2) has been
chosen. Model results indicate a good agreement between the observed and calculated data. The water age was also calculated; the results show that the mean water age is sensitive to thermal structure and to Segre River and Ebro River inflows (discharge and water temperature).
